1 in 4 Indians have a mental health problem : WHO

As we approach the mid of 2019, mental health in India, becomes a matter of great concern, as reports suggest that even though humans are connected to each other all the time but they have never been so disconnected from themselves. Mental illness is a  genuine health condition, characterized by alteration in thinking, mood, or behavior associated with distress or impaired functioning. WHO claims that 1 out every 4 people in India are suffering from some type of mental illness but are afraid to talk about it, because of the stigma and fear of social backlash.

The past few years have seen tremendous growth in creating awareness about mental health among Indians. We have seen people urging to understand the need for better understanding, empathy and respect for people who are dealing with mental health issues. When we talk about mental health, issues like depression, anxiety, dementia, schizophrenia, burn out, substance abuse, etc. falls under this category.

The fact that an individual’s emotional health can also impact his physical health, is reason enough to break the stigma around mental illness. Some disorders may be very limited in their functional effects, while others may involve substantial disability and support needs but the discussion ends at the point that every illness is treatable and so does Mental Illness.

Currently, several researchers believe that mental disorders are caused by a chemical imbalance in the brain. Therefore, individuals who struggle with mental illness do not have control over the origin of the disorder. They need support, encouragement & a safe environment to heal up at their own pace.

Since mental illnesses require an intervention, face to face communication with trained clinicians, who can prescribe medications, recommend treatments & therapies for people dealing with mental health issues, is the first step towards recovery.

NABH accredited and SMHA approved mental health care institutions such as PsyCare Neuropsychiatry Care Center in New Delhi are primarily focused on treating their patients with utmost care & respect. The safe & sound environment at Psycare with its team of mental health professionals has worked like magic for the tens of thousands of patients, who have relied on PsyCare for alleviating their mental health.  PsyCare is today acknowledged as one of the leading private institutions in Delhi, which offers a world class drug rehibilitation and mental health residential care facility.
