Moms Need More Support to deal with Postpartum Depression
Postnatal or Postpartum Depression or PPD is a common situation which happens after childbirth and affects 1 in every 7 women. India alone has over 10 million cases every year, but people are not aware of it. As a result of this, mothers of newly born babies don’t get the required support.
Symptoms of PPD
PPD occurs within four weeks of childbirth and may continue for many months and even after a year. Symptoms of this condition include:
- Mood swings
- Sense of hopelessness and worthlessness
- Inexplicable crying
- Fluctuations in appetite
What to do?
- Make sure that they follow a healthy diet and rest properly
- Be with them
- Check with the doctor about exercising
- Support them in their daily chores and routine tasks
- Consult a professional
