The 10th of October being the world mental health day. PsyCare Neuropsychiatry care center organized a program where the theme was “Mental Health Promotion and Suicide Prevention in patients with Schizophrenia “. The event was held at Ameya, Jasola Vihar on 10th October 2019.
The program was organized for the caregivers of patient living with Schizophrenia. The program was primarily regarding the awareness and the need to prioritize one’s mental health.
The commencement of the program was started by Dr Ananya Choudhury which was then carried forwarded by two other segments held by Dr Shiraz and Ms Anjana Baliga respectively. Total of three segments covering a vast domain related to various aspects which included understanding of schizophrenia and its signs and symptoms along with treatment and the intervention. Moreover, our Mental Health professionals educated the caregivers about the indicators and common myths surrounding suicide. Also, families were taught how to increase their well being and resilience. The last session was regarding Mental Health promotion and positive Mental Health. This session was about how the presence of stigma in our society is still prevalent and how this has been hampering the treatment and recovery from mental illness.
The event was ended with a brief relaxation session which was quite soothing for all the caregivers. The caregivers were involved till the end of the segment and the questions that were put by the caregivers were clarified by the Doctor’s. Many caregivers shared their stories with us and felt that the Mental health is also an essential aspect of individual’s life.
Overall the program was highly acknowledged by the caregivers and considered to be quite fruitful and an informative session.
